A special thank you to my Great Papa Baker.
Douglas William Baker - a photographer and film developer with the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). After the cities in Germany were bombed, he would fly over them and take pictures of where the bombs hit, and also photographed daily life while away at war.
When Holland was liberated he was there, taking many pictures of the finally free people. He also helped free the prisoners of war, at Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen.
When he was in Holland, he and a few other airmen organized a Christmas party for the Children. There was never enough food in Holland and they were able to get enough candy and food so all the kids got a treat and dinner.
He is behind the lens of so many of our Cottage Collection photos, and the maker of so many of memories for his 3 daughters, 7 granddaughters & all of his great-grandchildren who share his stories, photos, memories and stories with pride.
